The Wollmeise Yarn Club

such a yarn club has never existed before!
— Claudia Höll-Wellmann

We Cordially welcome you!

In 2017, I would like to invite you to join us for a thrilling knitting adventure. Our theme: four unconventional women who have not only greatly performed but are also bold, courageous, headstrong, gifted, special and extraordinary. This is reflected in our new Wollmeise Yarn Club, a one-time only event. Let yourself be swept into past decades, learn about unusual life-stories and find yourself drawn into their worlds.

Our exclusive Wollmeise Yarn Club is something really special that never existed before. That's why we have dedicated it to these extraordinary women. We don’t want to reveal just yet exactly who they are. But you can already get really excited about four deliveries, each dedicated to a historically important, artistic, headstrong and courageous personality.

In each parcel you will find the finest wool in Pure, Lace or Blend for your smaller or larger knitted piece of art. Every skein is hand-dyed by us with dedication and is inspired by the respective subject. In every Wollmeise Yarn Club package you will also find an exciting pattern created specially for our club speaking to the character of the selected historical personalities.

Our four designers are as extraordinary as our four featured women.

what you can expect

This is Included in your Wollmeise Yarn Club (WYC) subscription

Expect to open every package with eager anticipation and a desire to start knitting right away. As we have said before, your whole subscription is subject to a theme. In this context, each of your four deliveries will describe life and character of one of our four selected women. This way you will get a story coming to life through the designs, the specially hand-dyed skeins of yarn, and the mark of quality. We will sweep you into the flair of the past and inspire you to create your very own modern piece of knitted art.

One Pullover, two shawls one cardigan

In total you will get four skeins of Pure, two skeins of Lace-Garn and two skeins of Blend. We will not tell you their sequence yet, we don't want to spoil the surprise, :-)! We'll tell you only this much: You will be invited to knit a cardigan, a pullover and two shawls in multi-colored, and semi-solid (all new!) colorways.

To inspire you even more, we have developed a few useful extras for this exclusive club, including our own little label with the club logo. This way, you can enhance your finished knitted pieces with the exclusive club brand that is available only from the Wollmeise Yarn Club. But that's not all. In addition, you may also look forward to other small surprises that we will add to the packages, just for you.

You are not alone

We will be at your side throughout the year. On www.wollmeiseyarnclub.com you will regularly find news about your subscription and your four deliveries. So please drop by here for news and inspiration every now and then.

There will also be our own group in Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/groups/wollmeise-yarn-club. Here you may ask for help if you have any problems with your knitting, and you can exchange ideas with fellow knitters.

Finally, we are planning a Wollmeise Yarn Club meeting in order to catch up and and share your knitting experiences with other club enthusiasts. Date and time will be announced on our news page.

The Designers of our Wollmeise yarn club

We are very proud and happy that the designers Åsa Tricosa, Melanie Berg, Nicolor and Sue Grandfield agreed to join the Wollmeise Yarn Club. With a lot of enthusiasm and happy excitement, all four have quite keenly pondered how to enrich our Yarn Club with innovative designs worthy their chosen women. Here we would like to introduce our artists briefly.

Åsa Söderman

Åsa Söderman is a Swedish knitter who lives in Germany with her Danish husband. Åsa designs things she likes to wear, things that are missing in her closet, things begging to be invented. Her style is simple with great attention to the telling or funky detail and sometimes a slightly mad construction. She likes to think of her work as well crafted in the Scandinavian design tradition.
Clever solutions to tricky knitting problems please her, and she is very fond of seamless and top down. Expect the unexpected as you begin an Åsa Tricosa shawl or work your way from one shoulder to the other in a Ziggurat sweater. She also likes to share her moves, so you’ll find many photo tutorials and there is always step by step guidance in her patterns.
http://asatricosa.com

"Do I really want to join a club that wants me as a member? When it's the Wollmeise Yarn Club, yes! First of all, who would not want to be associated with this group of seriously talented, unusual, headstrong, confident, courageous, pathbreaking women? Pity it doesn't rub off. Secondly, I would sign up for anything that comes from Claudia's brain – and dye baths. Finally, I have a special connection with "my" woman. I will tell you about her and it when my design & the Wollmeise yarn she inspired have found their way to your mailbox. You'll just have to wait!"

Melanie Berg

Melanie lives and knits in Bonn, where she shares with her husband, their three young children and with a lot of yarn a little house.
In her designs, she breathes new life into the knitting scene - her creations are modern, casual, and especially wearable. Whether jeans or dress, jacket or skirt - a shawl as Drachenfels, Ashburn or Sunwalker always fits.
Melanie loves to work with hand dyed wool. The vast quantity of beautiful colors as well as the subtle shades which give each model a touch of depth, make a knitting project even much more interesting and exciting. She skillfully plays with the different tones and combines strong colors with neutral ones, to maintain a pleasing balance.
Her guides are clearly structured and easy to understand - not only the finished piece of knitting, but also the way to it should be fun!
http://www.ravelry.com/groups/designs-by-melanie-berg

"I was excited when I was invited to contribute a pattern to the latest Wollmeise Club! Taking part in an event that honors strong and opinionated women is something I'm very happy about - we can learn so much from these characters, and the stories of their lives are well worth telling. I hope that our designs will reflect this, and bring the journeys of theses women a little closer to all of you."

Nicolor

Nicola Susen stands for clean lines and simple design - namely as a graphic designer as well as in her work as a knitwear designer.
Her penchant for logic and mathematics following, Nicola began her career as a programmer.
Arranging, optimizing and appropriate shaping was exactly what she wanted to do. Only  her beloved strong colors missed out.
By working as a graphic and knitting designer this deficiency is resolved. »Nicolor" is not only a name, but also program.
Nicolors knitting instructions are under the sign "Maximum freedom": That means,  jackets and sweaters in her program can be knitted with any yarn and in any size, some even without a knitting gauge.
Her clear and unobtrusive design goes not in competition with the color. On the contrary - both complement each other perfectly. This is also the opinion of those who knit these intructions. In Ravelry no yarn is so often used in Nicolors projects as Wollmeise in all variations.

"Ich freue mich sehr, Teil dieses wunderbaren Themas zu sein. Die Recherche dazu hat mich tiefer und tiefer in die Geschichte hinein gezogen und mir ungeahnte Informationen über diese Zeit gegeben. Lasst Euch überraschen!"

Sue Grandfield

Sue Grandfield (RiotousAssembly on Ravelry) is an English knitter living in Melbourne, Australia with her Tasmanian husband. Their work sees them travel the world, and knitting is the perfect companion on those long journeys!
Sue’s love of travel means she can often be found knitting socks, shawls and accessories, small portable items that are great for knitting on the go, but there’s always a larger item on the needles too! Sue’s designs feature beautiful yarns in fabulous colours and are often inspired by her passion for photographing curious details from the world around her. She loves to research, explore and reinterpret traditional knitting techniques and her style features simplicity with a twist, attention to detail - sometimes elegant, sometimes riotous, but always fun to knit!
Sue loves to teach and pass on her love of knitting.

"I am so excited to be part of the Wollmeise Yarn Club for 2017. The chance to create a design based on a special theme with beautiful yarns and fabulous exclusive colorways - what more could you wish for? I can't say too much, but I've been busy exploring fashions and textiles of the past, delving into vintage stitch dictionaries and swatching like mad! In short, I've been having a wonderful time looking for a way to represent the very special woman who is my chosen inspiration."

Frequently ask questions

When will the Wollmeise Yarn Club commence?

Right now. Visit our web shop at www.rohrspatzundwollmeise.de/wollmeise-yarn-club to sign up for the Wollmeise Yarn Club.

How do I place an order?

The Club is available in our web shop in the Specials/Wollmeise Yarn Club section. Choose between the Wollmeise Yarn Club or the Wollmeise Yarn Club Plus version and select the language for your pattern.

Please, note:
You cannot pickup the Wollmeise Yarn Club deliveries in person!
Only one Wollmeise Yarn Club can be ordered per form. Please, place any further order - whether another Wollmeise Yarn Club or other skeins - in a separate order form.

What is a Wollmeise Yarn Club Plus version?

One of the four deliveries contains three Pure skeins for a pullover. If you need more wool for this project, you have the possibility to order two additional Pure skeins by selecting the Wollmeise Yarn Club Plus version. Please note: The Plus version relates only to this single delivery!
In total you will receive four skeins Pure, two skeins Lace and two skeins Blend.

When will the deliveries arrive?

You will receive your surprise packages in March, June, September and December. The exact shipping dates will be told in time and regularly in our news on our Yarn Club website at www.wollmeiseyarnclub.com.

Can I purchase just one delivery?

No, unfortunately, this is not possible. The Wollmeise Yarn Club is a subscription product consisting of four surprise packages. The total product price includes all four deliveries.

Why does my skein look different to the one I have seen in the Internet?

Your wool is a hand dyed unique piece which develops its personality in the process of knitting. Minor differences in color intensity or if one or the other color is more in the foreground is part of the appeal of knitting with hand dyed yarn.

What if I do not like a delivery? Can I send it back?

You may cancel your subscription to the whole Wollmeise Yarn Club, but not the single instalments. You may cancel within 14 days of receiving your first delivery. That said, if you do not like a delivery, you will certainly find somebody else who will. Why not trade with your friends and neighbours? If you would still prefer to cancel your subscription, you will find details in our Terms and Conditions.

Can I also buy the Wollmeise Yarn Club as agift?

Yes, of course, what a splendid idea! Christmas is coming! Please, just enter the recipient's address as the address of delivery and your own for the invoice address. The recipient will be over the moon.

What happens if I move in 2017?

In this case, please, contact us immediately and inform us about your new address, so that the next tenant won't get your surprise package! :-)

Can I order a pattern individually?

Yes, but only at the end of the exclusive period. In other words: Six months after each delivery, the respective patterns will be available from the designers.

Please, respect the copyright! Publishing or disclosing the pattern in any way is not permitted.

What if I have any questions about my knitting project?

No problem, you are not alone. There is a Ravelry group set up just for the Wollmeise Yarn Club. You can discuss with others there and will certainly get answers to your questions. The designers very likely will help you in some cases as well.

How do I find out how the club functions?

Visit us regularly at www.wollmeiseyarnclub.com. We have set it up just for the Wollmeise Yarn Club and will keep you up-to-date on the 'News' page. If you want to, you may also send us a message with your questions. Please, use the contact form on our website for that.

Marie Curie

Welcome to the start of Wollmeise Yarn Club!

Four bold, courageous, headstrong and talented women. These attributes aren’t just reserved for the famous, there are women all over the world who live for and embody them. We want to use our theme to remind you of your own strength and to make you brave and proud. Your first surprise package is all about:

Maria Salomea Skłodowska-Curie (1867-1934)

Marie Curie was born on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw as the daughter of a mathematics and chemistry professor. As the fifth and youngest child, she grew up in very difficult familial, economic and political conditions. Because her mother suffered from tuberculosis, she received no motherly love, which made her very reserved towards other people. Marie Curie was an unusually diligent child, and she finished school at the top of her class in 1883. Getting a degree was not an option at the time because women were not allowed to attend university in Poland. She helped her father for many years in his laboratory and also worked for some time as a governess. . .

Below we have gathered some links for you in case you would like to inform yourself more in detail about the life of Marie Curie:
